A while ago I found this cool blog about a local woman who is currently a surrogate for her sister-in-law. And with the IVF, one baby became TWINS! This family has a very interesting story relating to modern technology and I encourage you all to take a peek at their blog. It's pretty interesting. I've been following it for a while now and this family definitely has some serious love for one another!
A Belly For Me, A Baby For You
So what is the point of this? While I was reading through the text this week, a question popped into my head. Scientists say that many traits are passed down through genetics, and traits can be developed by the fetus in the womb. So, if a baby is grown in a surrogate mother, is anything different about the baby than it would have been if it was growing inside of it's genetic mother? I'm not sure what to think! Some traits may come from simply growing in the womb, like anxiety. So if that's the case, could the baby be different simply because of the womb it is growing in? Or does DNA play a bigger role, so the baby would come out the same no matter who's uterus it is growing in? So many questions and I don't have any idea how to go about answering them.
I think that the DNA in a fetus might play a bigger role in how it develops, rather than where it grows. Even if the baby is exposed to stress, like anxiety, it may be able to handle it better with genes. Even if a baby were in its biological mother's womb, it would still respond to stress in the same way.
I think the blog would be pretty interesting to read and will probably be taking a peek in there in the next few days.
ReplyDeleteI certainly agree with you in that DNA might play a bigger role in how it develops within the womb rather than the womb itself. But once baby is out of the womb and in mama and dada's arms he/she will certainly be more heavely influenced by parents attitude toward him/her.

It is quite interesting topic. I think DNA does affect us a lot, genetic information which is passed from parents to kids surely becomes a part of kid’s personality. After baby is born environment changes his personality. Culture also plays a big role in our lives. So, there are a lot of things which make us who we are today.
ReplyDeleteIt is kind of interesting! There are just so many questions that we can't have a definitive answer for, and that vary on a case by case basis. Ah Psychology, why do you do this to us?
